Part 226 Special Education Rules Workshop

Over 80 members attended Local 943's workshop on March 11th that was presented by Sue Walter, IFT UPD Director, explaining the revised Part 226 Special Education Rules that were finalized in June 2007 and are of particular concern to our members. The rules contain many changes that will impact the work of paraprofessionals, special education teachers and general education teachers.

These areas include the special education issues of class size and caseload/workload, as well as the general education issues related to students’ response to scientific, research-based interventions (sometimes called Response to Intervention, or RtI).

Participants left the workshop with:

  • Greater understanding of some areas of the Part 226 Rules impacting teachers and paraprofessionals; and
  • 1.5 CPDUs for workshop attendance.
