Right now Congress is discussing a budget plan that will mean steep cuts to the Medicaid program which supports people from birth to retirement and beyond; it is essential to keeping hospitals open and supporting students at school. Cutting Medicaid will hurt individual patients and entire communities.

The Trump administration’s plan to gut federal support for public schools and give tax cuts to billionaires at the expense of loans for students to make college affordable and health care services for those who need it the most (including disabled children) sends a terrible, symbolic message.

One of President Trump’s first actions of his second term was to rescind the long-standing policy that immigration raids would not be permitted in sensitive areas—such as schools, hospitals and places of worship—because these places should be safe and welcoming havens for all children.

Democrats in Congress are fighting to stop Trump’s healthcare cuts and premium increases that will hurt millions of Americans and their families. Meanwhile, Trump and Congressional Republicans are focused on gutting our country’s healthcare system and leaving patients with nowhere to turn.

Illinois public employees deserve a fair and secure retirement. Join IFT and the We Are One Illinois coalition in the continuing campaign for comprehensive Tier 2 pension reform.

We need to remind everyone in Congress—Democrats and Republicans—that what happened is not OK. Not only is the new president violating the law by pausing funding that Congress already passed, he’s also hurting people in every corner of the country, including in red states.

If passed, the Paraprofessionals and Education Support Staff Bill of Rights would lift up the need for living wages, safe working conditions, respect and dignity.
