Local 943 members joined over 3000 AFT union delegates from across the country to serve as delegates to the 2026 AFT Convention in Washington, D.C. Throughout the convention, our members participated in committee work, debates and voted on resolutions to guide the future of AFT.
Local 943 President Elaine Bernal spoke in support of an anti-voucher resolution in front of the entire delegation, emphasizing the importance of protecting and strengthening public education for our students.
Members also had the pleasure to hear some great speakers such as House Minority Leader, Hakeem Jeffries, Rev. Warnock, AFT President Randy Weingarten, Stacey Abrams and IFT President Stacy Davis Gates.
The AFT reception was held at the National Museum of African American History and Culture which provided delegates a unifying evening together. Delegates had additional opportunities to connect with other leaders from across the nation to share meals and experiences, exchange ideas, and build relationships. It was a great opportunity to see the inner workings of our union and to strengthen our solidarity.
